more BLW advice please

My bab is likely to start nursery around 6 1/2 mo - and will not take a bottle - I've had good advice on this and cups from MNers but I'm anxious that the naturally slow progress of BLW plus his bottle-phobia may leave him calorie deficient at nursery

Luckily I've only got to work 5 days/fortnight but comments please on BLW technique - can I 'top him up' with purees too or does that muck the whole thing up?

Thank-you ladies

Have you started BLW yet? You may be pleasantly surprised at how much he does eat. My DD was easily able to chew and swallow at 6.5 months and, in fact, ate more then than she does now at 15 mo. I never spoon fed, but there's no reason not to combine finger foods with purses if that's what you prefer. It's not 'BLW' then, but does that matter to you? It did to me, which is why I stuck with finger foods until she could manage a spoon/fork herself.

Some people find their nurseries go ahead and spoon feed anyway, so you may find a mixture works better for you. I remember my friend being infuriated on the days her DD had been with granny as she wouldn't pick up food but just sat with her mouth open! Good luck.

That'll be purees, not purses.

You can definitely top up with purees if you want to but you may find you don't need to. I did (porridge at bedtime) between 7 and 8 months as DD did seem hungry in the night (and she slept much better with the porridge) but I stopped after a few weeks as she learned so fast how to feed herself. You can always offer him preloaded spoons of puree/porridge, which is more baby led. My dd could get a spoon in her mouth plus some of it's contents from about 6.5 months.
