DD is 6m and has only tasted rice. wanted to give her a stick of carrot to suck on after just reading about BLW here. basically should the stick hold its consistency or be so soft she can mush it with her fingers? silly I know but I just haven't read much of the threads here yet.

A good rule of thumb that I used is that if you can squish whatever it is between your tongue and the roof of your mouth, then it'll be soft enough for baby.

I never found carrot a particularly good one...always a little too hard, or complete mush.

Roasted veg is great as it holds up to being smooshed in their hands a bit better, but is still lovely and soft on the inside. Potato wedges, roast parsnip, roast sweet potato...stuff like that are great 1st foods.

Thanks. And you are right, she mushed up and painted the table with the carrot. Great expression when she sucked her thumb afterwards though!
