Ds2 had his paediatric out patient appt yesterday. All went well till the registrar started talking about introducing solids to him, as he is a week away from 6 mths.

'oh yes' says i 'we have been giving him foods to play with and mouth at'

her - 'WHAT!'

we have been giving him fist sized chunks to play with so we know when he is ready to eat.

her - but he will choke! You have to give him purees!

me - no we don't. our hv told us this was a good way to introduce food. she is a big fan of blw, though we will be offering him mashed up stuff and porrige too.

her - Shock

Is it me or should people shut up about things they are ignorant about?

I am very hacked off as dh is already dead aginst giving ds2 finger foods as he is terrified of choking.

I have tried to explain choking v gagging to him but he still wants to buy fucking baby rice!

i did blw with DD1 to enormous success
i kept quiet about it to the HCPs Grin
and shall be doing likewise with DD2

interestingly though the current NHS recommendation is to wait until 6mo then offer mashed foods in combination with finger foods

Yes! NHS guidelines! You'd think she'd know...

Not as bad as my GP who suggested formula top ups for my 4 wk old unsettled baby, despite him gaining weight very well... Hmm
