Afternoon,
My poor little DS has been through the mill recently. A couple of weeks ago he had a tummy bug so stopped eating solids, then as that ended nightmare teething started. He was uncomfortable to the point that he was refusing breast and bottle at one point! But, it all seems to have calmed down now as although his appetite isn't how it was it's getting better each day.
Now from the start he has been given finger foods and fed himself, he has never been given puree. He ate sloppy foods from a loaded spoon once able. When he was unwell it was suggested that I try simple bland baby food with him so he ate something. I bought some jars (sorry other family stuff happening at the mo and we're not eating fresh food either!) and they did go down very well. Tried the loaded spoons as usual but he just leaned forward and supped the food off the spoon! I can understand why if his gums are sore, but he is still doing this now when the pain seems to have pretty much gone.
LAst night we tried him with pasta twirls and veg put in front of him, but he got all stroppy wanting our food (quite a spicy thai curry!) fed to him and refused the pasta. This morning he had a bowl of porridge, but again would only eat it if you fed it too him. If you give him finger foods or loaded spoons now they get thrown on the floor. Before I would have taken this as a sign he wasn't hungry, but clearly he is as he leans his little mouth towards a spoonfull of food!
So how can I get him back on track with his feeding technique? He starts nursery three days a week this week and there the other children eat at a table with proper cutlery themselves, no feeding or even loading of spoons required!
Another downside to this is that he has started waking in the night for the first time in ages for a feed, and a BF is not enough, he'll only settle after a BF and a bottle, WTF??
Has anyone else experienced this and what can I do???
