Is DD eating enough?

Hi wonderful mners
DD is 9 mo and doesn't really eat much. I have friends whose babies of the same age go through 2-3 jars of babyfood a day. DD IS BLW so it's hard to compare this to jars, but she definitely does not eat anywhere near this much. I'd say she might suck a bit of toast at breakfast and maybe eat a bit, a couple of peas and carrot sticks and bits of pasta at lunch and maybe the equivalent of half a jar of pasta/potato/meat/veg at dinner.

She's still bf, but doesn't sleep well either and I'm worried its because she's not full.

thanks for any advice

Don't worry - my DS was approaching 12 months when he suddenly seemed to discover what food was and began eating full meals from just sucking on things. Just keep dishing it up and she'll eat it when she's ready.

Also, bear in mind when you're offering solids in relation to milk, because if she's full of milk she won't be hungry. Just play around and see what works.

I'm prepared to be flamed for this, but would she benefit from being offered some gloop on a spoon? My DD has only just started to eat (as opposed to gum then spit out) finger foods at 12 months.

Have you read the BLW book?

Milk should form the majority of her intake until she's 1. No food is as rich in calories and nutrients as milk (breastmilk even more so!) If she's hungry she'll want/need more milk.

Puree fed babies, and and BLW'd babies eat so differently until they are past a year...it's quite detrimental to try and compare the 2. Puree fed babies will eat more at this age. Because it's easier to slurp off a spoon!

I tried to ignore the fact that Little Johnny sat next to us was gulping down a whole jar of food in a sitting, and focus on the fact that my baby was having a hoot and was happy, relaxed and enjoying her meal.

Fast forward 6 months, and suddenly...we're the envy of our friends. How do I get her to eat so well? Little Johnny just wants sweet puree. Little Johnny won't tolerate lumps. She uses a fork???!

BLW is sooooooo worth it in the long run!

Thanks - I know milk is meant to be her main source of food and I wasn't worried until a) she stopped sleeping through at night, and b) all the other smug mums were showing off their fat little babies, making dd look so skinny and small!

Don't think she's underweight though, so I'll keep at it.
