Do I just stop the formula when dd turns one and give cows milk?

Sorry for my ignorance but my dd turns one in a couple of weeks. She is currently on Hipp stage 3 formula and I was wondering if I drop that and give full fat milk as she turns one. Or do most of you with ff babies continue with formula?. Also do I pack away the steriliser on her birthday too (still sterilise everything so that would be a nice present for me Smile) What did you do?. Thanks if you can help.

I think the general advice is to stop sterilising at 6 months so I think you can definitely pack it away.

Once DS1 turned 1, I started to replace 30ml of his bottle/cup with cow's milk, gradually increasing the amount by 30ml every couple of days until he was just having cow's milk. He was absolutely fine with that. But he was a very good eater and loves his fruit and vegetables. My friends with fussy eaters kept them on ff for the extra nutrients until their eating improved.

We did bring growing up formula milk with us on holiday as it was easier than wondering if we'd be somewhere that sold full fat milk and whether he'd like the taste or not (and we didn't need to keep it cold).

Yes

When mine turn one I get rid of the steriliser, throw out all the bottles and use full fat cows milk.

So much easier and far far cheaper.

I would gradually change over. I was lazy with my son and virtually switched over night. It affected his bowels and he became constipated. I would add introduce 1/4 of a bottle of cows milk at a time and spread it over a couple of weeks until it is just cows milk.

My 2 only had 2 bottles by 1 year so I swapped the morning bottle to cows milk and left the bedtime one as formula. After a few days and when they were ok with the cows milk I swapped the evening one to cows milk too.

on same theme roughly, I intend going to cows milk rather than toddler milk even though adverts say you need 12 litres cows milk to provide enough iron for toddler, but then who thought milk was an iron source anyway thought it was red meat green veg etc!!!

just a cynical advert to make us mums feel guilty tor using cheap normal adult stuff for our DC!

Thank you lovely ladies for advice. Will start to introduce cows milk a little at a time and I'm so excited that my days of sterilising bottles are over. Smile

Sarahtigh - have a look at the small print on that advert next time it's on, it points out that milk is not the best source of iron!

I stopped sterilising just before DS turned on and mixed the type of milk just while I was running down the last box of formula.
