Finger Food Ideas

Hi, my ds is now nearly nine months, he has downs syndrome. I have been weaning him very well and he's good with the purees and we have moved onto more textured food as well. However his fine motor skills are not very good and he can't really sit up (I feed him in a baby/reclining chair thing) does anyone have any suggestions on how I can encourage a bit of finger food eating for him??

Hi Eliza, I am feeding DS in his bouncy baby seat too (like feeding on a trampoline, isn't it?). Sometimes I give him a rice cake to gum while I am preparing his meals - you can get big ones which might be easier to hold. Or the carrot sticks from Organix which look like Wotsitz are also good - but they do make a terrible mess. Could he manage toast soldiers to suck a bit? Then you could make them as big or small as he likes. Mine doesn't have teeth yet so I get a bit nervous about finger food but I hear you're supposed to brave about these things. Good luck Smile
