Hi

I have a 6.5 month old. I have now introduced all root veg and wondering where to go now.

I have also give baby rice / porridge and fruit.

Can I start meat yet? If so what type
Bread?

any ideas as I am cooking my own meals.

Thanks

Hi!

At that age I'd stick to butternut, pumpkin, sweet potato, apple, pear, banana and avo. Remember the 4 day rule!

Meat I'd probably only start 2 months after starting solids. So about 8 months?

I'm really not a big fan of normal bread for babies. It's refined, it's got no real nutritional value and it's got way too much salt in it. I'd stear clear of bread. (Gluten-free before 12 months is a better idea)

A GREAT site for what food is suitable at what age and GREAT recipe ideas: www.wholesomebabyfood.com/

This is a really nice one, I've used it extensively for my 9 month old.

If he/she has accepted the fruit and veg happily and had no adverse reactions then I would start to introduce meat and bread slowly (I know there are different schools of thought on this though so you'll probably get lots of different answers!). I think I started mine with pureed chicken and butternut squash. You could also try some dairy, perhaps start with something sweet like fromage frais. Also maybe try some finger foods if you haven't already (rice cakes, banana etc at first).

FWIW I found Annabel Karmel's book on weaning really useful but again I know some people aren't keen on her! HTH Smile

the coeliac society advises intoducing gluten from the age of 6 months and then to give it regularly afterwards. There are higher instances of coeliacs disease in babies given gluten before 4 months and after 7 months so it is best to introduce it somewhere in between.

babies and weaning

From 6 months your baby can have just about anything except whole nuts, honey, highly salted foods, etc so meat, fruits, pasta, porridge, etc would be fine to introduce.

wow that link on coeliac disease and when to introduce gluten is so useful! mil is a coeliac so was going to wait to introduce gluten but it sounds like its better to just give it as with normal foods (DS will be weaned from6 months)
