hi there, my 6 month old dd was weaned about 6 weeks ago and she's been doing really well on purees etc. I have gradually been introducing finger foods but shes been gagging alot just on simple things like bread or carrot sticks.
could anyone tell me when the gag reflex becomes a little less strong?? or is it to do with her being used to purees and not used to a firm sensation at the back of her throat? any ideas how to help her?

thanks everyone! all advice really appreciated!

You could try the Organix Carrot Sticks (the ones that are for babies from 7mths)
as these dissolve into a very mushy smooth texture and she might not gag quite so much seeing as their sucked on texture is more smooth like her pureed foods

they were a good first finger food for DS2 who also used to gag with lots of things when we first started trying to add texture to food and finger foods.

Maybe try other softer food that is easy to move around the mouth eg avocado, banana, blue berries, porridge, houmous?

The gag reflex seems to vary between babies, but does usually lessen quite quickly as they get used to handling proper food. Apparently, babies eat purees in the same way that they swallow liquids, and it takes time for them to develop new ways of managing solid food.

We're coming up to root veg time of year, which is great roasted for BLW.
