weaning/milk/nap routine?

We have just started weaning DS (5 months) a bit early as advised to hopefully help his silent reflux... so currently having 1 or 2 meals a day following his lead but our routine is all over the place. So just wondering how your food/milk/nap routine goes? Been googling and seems alot of people give food in between milk, so either food or bottle every 2 hours... this seems mad to me as he happily goes 4 hours between milk feeds and also generally 2 hours after his milk he is still napping (morning and afternoon) so to give him food when he wakes would be really close to next milk feed etc... would it be really bad to follow something like this?

7/8 - milk & breakfast
9.15 nap
11/12 - lunch & milk
1 - nap
4 - milk
5.30 - dinner
7.30 - milk
10.30 - milk

all thoughts, advice etc greatfully received!!
thanks :)

Yep that's what we were doing at 5 months. now 6 months and have managed to cut out night feeds (most nights!) but what you have there is our routine.

I am trying to keep him awake for a bit after his breakfast and lunch but he gets tired due to the food so we put him down.

Good luck!

woo great to hear someone else doing something similar and it is working :) Have a toddler of 2 and try to get out to groups/park etc as much as possible and feeding him every 2 hours would make things quite tricky!!

Amazing how you seem to forget stuff from the 1st time round!
thanks again :)

I am watching this thread with interest as I am also a bit confused about this. DD is up until now EBF which means her milk feeds are all over the place (depending on when she asks) rather than in any sort of pattern...

I was under the impression that milk should be offered first, before solids as milk should be the main source of nutrition, but as you say, that's not necessarily practical.

I am struggling to work the feeding times around naps etc too as although improving, they are still not regular - eg sometimes DD will have 45 mins at 10ish and then a 2 hr nap at 1.30, other days she has a 1.5 - 2 hour nap at 10 ish and then a shorter one at 1.30/2

How on earth do you work out a routine, or do you just try and keep food to the same times (roughly) and let it just sort itself out eventually?

curlyLJ, mine just sort of worked. I asked the HV today and she said if he isn't too interested in the 11am feed then don't worry about giving it to him. Her take on it was that food is more important now he is over 6 months and that I should give him things with milk in like cheese and yogurt and this is fine towards his "pint a day".

I have decided to be relaxed about the whole thing as there is literally no way to MAKE him drink more.

As for naps, I love it when he sleeps at home for a good time but I have had to accept that sometimes he will have to sleep out and about as I can't stay in forever.

Its a delicate balancing act isn't it.

But yes we do food at the same time every day regardless.
