Weaning - 8 weeks in and now won't eat

I started weaning DS at just under 6 months. The first couple of weeks were slow but got him up to 3 meals a day a couple of weeks ago and he was wolfing down all 3. Last week though he started refusing food after just a couple of mouthfuls - even with previous favourites like butternut squash and sweet potato. The only thing he seems to open up for is porridge. I gave in and gave that to him for dinner a couple of times, but don't want to breed a fussy eater. I have had to reintroduce a bottle of formula at lunchtime as I'm worried he might not be getting enough calories. Any ideas why he's doing this? Please tell me it will pass!

Have you thought about letting him feed himself with finger foods, parched? Many babies eat better this way, rather than 'opening up' for the spoon.

i would take him right back to bland baby rice and basically start again with introducing veg, then protein etc.

Have heard of this happening to others and the only resolution was to start again.

It may be teeth. I think it's quite common for babies to stop eating proper food when they have pain in their teeth.

I wouldn't make a big thing of it. Keep offering food. If hd doesn't eat it, give him some milk.

Whatever you do, try hard not to let him see if you are anxious about this. IMO, this is when problems star. (Hard to do, I know!)

I had this at the exact same time - DD refused to eat anything except yoghurt and rice pudding for 5 days. Wouldn't even taken her bottle or boob. Would just drink from a cup. Turns out it was teething. I wouldn't worry - it will pass. I was beside myself at the time though.

Thanks everyone. He's been a bit better the past few days and has certainly taken to toast fingers!
