BLW 13mo still having loads of milk- should I change back to formula from cows milk?

Ds eats pretty well (IMO) but still wants a lot of milk. We've just successfully completed the transition to cows' milk but he seems to want even more milk now than before. On an average day I reckon he has 24oz of milk. That's too much isn't it?

As we're doing blw I've been trying to trust that he'll reduce his milk himself and I don't really want to force him but OTOH I'm worried he's not getting the right balance of nutrients.

So- should I just carry on offering snacks but not forcibly reduce his milk, actively reduce the amount he has or go back to formula?

Any help much appreciated!!

What fluids other than milk do you offer him?

My DD was like this. I just kept giving her the cows milk.

When she turned 2 I got tough on removing the bottle and replacing it with a cup and she reduced the amount of milk she was drinking. I must say, it does seem to have improved how much she eats.

Your DS is a lot younger, so I'd be inclined to leave him. How does he take his milk? Could you package it less enticingly to discourage the drinking of it?

I'd leave him for now but gradually try to reduce his intake over the next few months, whilst offering him a wide range of food.

DD1 loved her milk and I'm embarrased to admit that by the time she was 3 she was still drinking a lot and ended up quite overweight.

I was advised to treat milk as a food and eventually 'weaned' her off it by gradually diluting it more and more until was just water.

The strange thing is that she hates milk now.

Old Lady- he has loads of water and I always offer it before milk if he wakes in the night.

Skidoodly- we still haven't started the bottle to cup transition so you might be right there- perhaps when it's in a cup he won't like it as much. Glad to hear your dd was the same and is fine!

Tidybush- sounds like a plan. I'll not worry just yet, start on cups and then water down if need be.

Thanks everyone!
