HV reccomendations for weaning.

DD2 had her 8 wk check yesterday-she is actually 14wks today,so it was a bit late.

I was really surprised that my HV started telling me about starting to wean DD2 already. She told me that the WHO now reccomends weaning be left until after 17wks! I was waiting for her to say '26wks' & was quite shocked when she said 17.

18 months ago,DD1 was weaned at 16wks,because she started refusing milk & we were worried about her weight gain. For the record, she has no allergies & eats just about anything put in front of her.But DD2 loves milk & I see no point in weaning her just for the sake of it.I'm going to hang on as long as we can.

Is anyone else still being told out of date info?

what a daft woman. I was lucky, my HV was fab, but listening to my friends, and reading MN, I do wonder where some of them get their ideas from - do they make it up as they go along? Apparently the best policy is smile sweetly and ignore the advice.

My hv had never heard of the WHO recommendations or our own country's and she was head of hvs at a large practice.

Mirage, don't do it. I got similar advise from my HV (which I followed) and my DS (who was 20 weeks when he started solids, 24 weeks now) got really runny nappies and was very unsettled. I therefore cut the food right back and am now waiting for him to get to six months before we start again.

I have seen lots of threads from Hercules about this and have really taken her advice to heart.
