Hi,

I want to introduce my son to a formula milk now hes just turned 8 months.
Hes been on solids 3 months and is quite fussy as to what he likes but loves baby rice with my milk.
He will suck a bottle but not sure if he will suck formula milk....
But never the less, I am determined to give it a go.
Has anyone else done this and what tips can you offer? also what can I expect.

Thanks in advance.

why not buy a few ready made cartons and see if he likes any better than the others - you can then buy the tub of powder. You have the choice of first milk and follow on milk but it is totally up to you which one you use. Follow on has added iron and may be constipating (mine never had a problem with it). Follow on can also be cheaper and you can get points/promotions on it unlike the first milks.

I don't suppose one is better than any of the others to be honest. I've used Aptamil with both my DDs and am happy with it. Just buy one and see how it goes (you could always mix it with whatever milk he currently has to start with, to introduce the taste gradually).

I weaned by baby from breast to bottle at 8months and he took to it without any fuss at all to my surprise!!
I started by buying cartons of Aptamil follow on milk and giving him this for his bed time feed and morning feed but carried on breast feeding through the night, however after a few days I cut out the breast feeding in the night and replaced it with formula, I have found he has cut down his night time feeds as an added bonus Grin.
I used the cartons for about a week and then switched to the powder.

I personally think it smells awful but my son really enjoys it.

From approx 12 months they can have just plain old cows milk, would it be possible to keep going with breast milk for a few more weeks until you can give full fat cows milk? That would save the bother of weaning onto formula and then weaning off formula when you want to change to ordinary cows.

Just a thought Smile

Thanks Ladies, Im so jealous how some babies just accept it, and others dont.

I have actually been considering carrying onto 1 year then seeing what happens.:)

And yes formula milk does stick! Makes me feel guilty.:(

If you think it stinks when it goes in, just wait for the nappies Shock

Seriously, I was disgusted! Breastfed nappies I used to think smelled quite nice Blush but formula nappies.... bleugh!!! Grin

I have now got to 11 months on free milk Grin and it is surprising how quickly the last few months have passed.

A lot of people were asking me if I was going to stop, but it seemed kind of nuts when I thought about it to go out and start buying milk, for the sake of a few months. He already has cow milk on his cereal so hoefully he will like it ok.
