Who gets the highchair - baby or toddler?

I'm about to wean my dd but my 2 year ds is still in his highchair. Oh, he makes such a mess! I want to move him to a booster seat at the table but my dh is horrified by the idea! He'll have to sit at the table eventually. I'm not even sure that he'll agree to give his highchair to his sister - he's very possessive.

What has anyone else done at this stage?

If we get a second highchair, does anyone know of any intermediate sort of solutions that might be a messy option for now but convert to an at-the-table option for when he gets a bits older?

My 20 mo either sits at the 'grown' up table (and has since he was about 15 or 16mo), or he has a toddler-sized table and chairs that he loves to eat at too.

Could it be that your DS is making mess because he is still in a highchair - would it be any different if you gave him a talk about being a 'grown up' and maybe giving him a new set of cutlery, plates etc to make an occasion of it? If he's just a messy eater though, you could chuck a washable plastic mat under his booster seat.

If you do opt for a 2nd highchair, Cosatto and BabyDan will convert to adult chairs.

Ikea's highchair is the only one worth buying. It costs around £10 and you can take the tray off to sit at the table. here it is
