Butternut squash- shall I steam it or roast it?

Am going to try dd with butternut squash tonight as we're having butternut squash risotto - do I steam it or roast it? This is her first week of weaning, am doing a mixture of spoon feeding and finger food.

Thanks!

Either! Depends if you have already got the oven on for something else.

I always bake mine - cut in half, remove seeds, drizzle with oil, whack in oven.I'd give her the risotto though - perfect baby food I'd have said

Isn't risotto made with stock (ie salty stock cubes) and or wine? i wouldn't give this to a small one...

I always use very low salt stock and never put wine in, so didn't think about that tbh. Weaning is a good time to switch the whole family over to a healthier diet - everyone eating the same thing as far as possible is the aim

I do the oven bake as well except I pour a bit of orange juice in the cavity where the seeds are scooped out instead of oil. I add a knob of butter instead. Makes it super sweet and if I mix it with something like spinach then I know there is orange in there with the vitamin c to make sure the iron from the spinach is absorbed.

Ooh, thanks for ideas! Risotto had white wine in otherwise I would have let her try it. I steamed it in the end and let her try chunks which she shmooshed (technical term!) in her hands and then sucked off her fingers

She was a very happy baby and my other dc's could hardly eat for laughing!

We do eat fairly healthily but it is a good chance to give our diet an overhaul as I want us all to eat together still. It's much more fun doing this than the pureeing I did for my older two
