formula milk free baby rice?

Am doing a mixture of purees and baby led weaning with my 5.5month old and she's started having problems going to the loo. She's been 100% breastfed and health visitor said some brands of babyrice have cows milk derivatives in their ingredients as part of the formula milk they use to make it creamier. Does anyone know which brands do or don't specifically include this?

If it says 'baby rice' on the packet then its almost always just baby rice with nothing else added. 'Baby cereal' may have other stuff in though.

Just have a look at the ingredients.

baby rice can be constipating in itself and is nothing to do with the addition of formula. If the pack says pure baby rice then all it is is rice and some vitamins. As pp said just read the labels

It's the massive amounts of iron they add to it that cause constipation. I would simply not give it to her, it's not necessary.

Lots of things can cause this in the very beginning -- I wouldn't assume it's a real milk sensitivity till you've eliminated the common culprits, one of which is baby rice.

Another big one is bananas. I didn't know this and was feeding DD (now 8mo) baby rice with mashed bananas, which she liked, but it was too much for her system and she was really struggling.

Now I put porridge oats in the food processor to make a fine powder, similar to baby rice but without the constipation. I also think oatmeal is more nutritious than rice. And I limit bananas.

Are you giving her water? It took my DD a while to get used to it, and to find a vessel she would drink from, but now knows when she's thirsty and gets excited to have a drink. And it helped the constipation a lot.

Boots baby rice definitely no milk products. As others have said, porridge can be a problem. Holle millet porridge worked for us and there's a Plum one called first porridge or something.

After 6 months you can just go to ReadyBrek rather than the baby stuff (but it's got gluten in it and it's best to avoid this til 6 months).
