was chatting to my mum about babyrice(in no way is she interfering just saying what she done with me and is supporting me in what i do with my wee one) she said when i 4.5months she started putting a spoon of it in my last night feed and i would sleep right through.
wondered if anyone else has heard or done this?

I've heard this. My mum said she knew women who gave their babies baby rice even younger than that back in 1980s.

My DS is just turned 5 months and I've given him a bit of baby rice on about 3 occasions at night. He slept for 8 hours

Last night he didn't get any and he still slept for 8 hours. So it may just be a developmental thing where babies might start sleeping longer at this age. I don't know.

Quite a few people told me to do this at around 5 months (held off til 6 months for weaning). Worked apparently for at least one friend. It does say that the baby can choke which put me off trying it.
I think a baby will sleep through when they sleep through if that makes sense - mine has just started now at 7 months but still has a 10pm feed for about 10 mins.

you should never add anything to a bottle of milk as it can then become a choking risk. Kellymom also cites other problems with putting rice or other cereals in the bottle:

?It is a choking hazard.
?The cereal takes away from the amount of milk in the bottle (adds carbohydrates and dilutes the nutrient density), and baby may not get adequate milk volume for proper growth and development.
?Baby is being given a higher concentration of calories without being able to regulate her own intake. This can lead to weight problems in the future.

p.s. if you are going to give rice why not just give it off of a spoon?

I have heard about putting rice or rusk in a bottle of milk but would never do it (and never did with either of my lo's)
