BLW - Where do I start?

I am about to start BLW and just wondered where to start. Just one meal a day or offering him every time I eat? I dont want him to get indigestion and not take his milk!
Anyone found any 'routine' advice?
Thanks!

Hi,

not an expert by any stretch but when we started blw with DD I just let her play with some of my food anytime she was with me when we had a meal - sometimes it was 3 meals, sometimes none depending on her naps and what time we ate our main meal. If we were at home I often sat her in her bumbo and stuck some bits from my plate onto her tray or just steamed a few extra veggies. If we were out then she sat on my knee and picked bits off my plate (although this is dangerous as I usually ended up wearing half my meal ). DD loved blw and took to it very quickly but even so she wasn't getting much in for the first few weeks, just mushing, tasting and gumming. She didn't really reduce her milk intake at first as far as I can tell - fed for as long and as often - so I didn't worry too much about routine or varying how many meals she had from day to day. It was just a chance for her to play and get used to some solid food.

As time went on and she started getting more in and actually chewing and swallowing most of the food I became a little more careful about making sure she got something fairly regularly but it all happened quite slowly over weeks. Now she is 9 months and has 3 HUGE meals a day plus snacks . She is a great eater and will try anything, the blw really worked for us (although I have to confess we didn't stick strictly to blw as we gave her porridge/yogurt etc on a spoon we loaded and handed to her to get to her mouth. She is quite handy with a spoon and fork now but still prefers to use her fingers most of the time).

What age did you start, Rlm?

We started at 21 weeks. I had intended to wait a little longer but DD grabbed a banana I was eating and started gumming it so I just let her carry on. We just gave her fruit and veg to play with/eat and some porridge for the first 2 or 3 weeks then added bread, pasta etc. She was always a very 'chewy' baby, everything just went straight into her mouth so I think blw was always going to suit her.
