6 and a half years old - good time or too young?

First of all, I'd like to say I think it's fine to take children of any age to Florida! I wouldn't judge any one else's choice.
I'm just asking for my situation personally.

I was hoping to go on a big holiday for my 40th but would also like to take our two boys to Disney. Unlikely we'd be able to afford both so I was thinking of combining the two. Ds1 will be 9, ds2 will be 6 and a half. It will likely be a once in a lifetime trip and I'm just wondering if we should wait until ds2 is a bit older if he only gets one chance of going as a child? Will he remember it? Should I just do something small for my 40th and do Florida a few years later?

Thanks everyone!

We’ve just come back from Disney with DD age 4 and she absolutely adored it. there were maybe 5 rides she couldn’t go on, but I would guess a 6 year old would be big enough. She’s already talking about “next time we go” though 🤦🏼‍♀️

Hi Op, I'll be 40 this year. We're taking DC aged 9 and just 7 to DWF in just under 3 weeks.

I think they're at great ages. Old enough to go on more rides and hopefully remember more and still appreciate the 'magic'. I went at 12 with my twin sister and at times felt a bit silly, although we could go on all the rides.

Also, it will work out a bit cheaper if you go before the eldest is 10 as once they hit that age they are counted as adult for tickets (!!).

We were originally due to go for our once in a lifetime trip in 2020 when ours would have been 9 and 6, obviously that was cancelled, I was very happy with the ages, we went to DLP when our youngest was 4 and he loved it, he'd have loved Florida at 6.

We just got back and our 6.5 year old was able to ride everything apart from Tron. She went on every rollercoaster except one, wanted to go on Tower of Terror twice, and announced that anything sedate was "boring". I feel like I've ruined her for future holidays BlushGrin

Def not too young! Took DD last year and she would've been about 6.5 and we also took her when she was 2.5.
She loved it... with the rides it depends a lot on their height. My DD is quite little so couldn't go on some off the bigger stuff but she was loves tower of terror and the new guardians ride!
In my opinion Disney is never a bad idea!

Definitely a great age! We're taking ours at 6yrs and 3yrs next year.

I first went age 11 in 1989 and have been 10 times since. It's genuinely the best holiday for any age. 6 is old enough for most rides and young enough to still believe the magic.

Thanks everyone! Definitely going to plan it and combine the two then, how exciting!

They will both enjoy it. Take loads of photographs because their memories will fade.
