Fortnite on the Switch

It pains me to have to ask, as I never thought I’d be this out of touch, but can anyone enlighten me about Fortnite on the Switch please? I had the intention of purchasing it for my son’s birthday, only to discover that it’s a free download 🤦‍♀️

What will I need to get my son set up? I can see there are headphones and a wireless controller for sale….are headphones essential to play? Would V Bucks be a welcomed gift by the aspiring Fortnite player??

Any light anyone can shed on this would be greatly appreciated!

Mine have headphones. It keeps me sane too! When they're both on together with their friends!

You don't have to pay for v bucks, but mine do enjoy an occasional top up with a tenner of their birthday or Christmas money so they can get skins.

They do get a new 'battle pass' each time the chapter changes.. I think that's every other month or so

Yes it's the v bucks he'll nag for! You can give some so he can buy a battle pass which changes each few months, which gives them "skins" when they start they have the basic Fortnite body which is apparently terrible as eveyone knows they are a new player.
