Lego Worlds for Nintendo Switch

I am not a gamer at all, and keep getting these purchases for my son wrong, so seeking advice here! He's expressed an interest in the game Lego Worlds. He has a Switch that he plays in hand held mode.

A) Can the game be played reliably offline? He doesn't have access to online gaming yet as he's only 9.

B) Is the game a complete game, or am I going to end up having to buy or download add ons that he hears about and wants?!

It's a complete game, playable offline and definitely OK in handheld. Mine really enjoyed it (until they lost the gamecard somewhere )
