For an almost 12 year old. Yay or nay?
Standard or deluxe version? Would be to play on the switch. A lot of the reviews seem mixed but I can't tell if a child would like it as almost all reviews seem to be from adults. Do your DC like it?

I think its fine. Its really a fantastic amd beautiful game.

The only thing that would give me pause for thought is there's this trans character and one of the missions involves getting her (male to rather unconvincing female - so much so that it's really cringe) letters from a cave and if you read them they're all about how her friend took her shopping for womens clothes when they were in school. It feels a bit...groomingish to me.

I mean, they could have had a trans chatacter tastefully but this... wasn't that.

Tbf though it's a short mission that can easily be missed. Mostly you won't bother reading the letters anyway I find.

But if your kid is having any gender identity issues then I'd swerve it. If they don't buy into all that modern woke shite of if it wpuld go over their head then its fine.

My 12 year old is playing it and enjoying it as am I. The whole trans bit from a PP passed me by so I’ve suggest it’s not a thing. It is a fighting game so you are essentially killing the bad guys although there is no horro. You can play on different difficulties so the fights are easier.

Pinkbonbon · 24/11/2023 20:59

I can't remember the difference between standard and deluxe. I had a feeling I read the deluxe was not worth the extra though.

My 9 year old loves it. (I'm enjoying it too!) if they are a Harry Potter fan I think they will really like it. We just have the standard version on switch.

Pinkbonbon · 24/11/2023 21:02

She's the pub owner from hogsmead. But yeah it's a really short mission, easily missed.

burnoutbabe · 01/12/2023 00:14

It was clear the pub owner was trans when you met them, but I can't say I actually read the stuff you pick up, you'd be there all day if you did that! They seemed a fairly reasonable helpful character, just mentioning bullying when young (but then just watched Harry Potter 4 where Luna is bullied and has her clothes hidden as she is different.

I did spend 70 hours to 100% the game on one house, need to redo first bit with 4th character to finally be done.

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 01/12/2023 00:21

My 10 year old potter super fan has been more or less living this on the PlayStation. Some of the missions are a little repetitive and the range of discoverable clothes is insane but otherwise it’s really good. Some good puzzles to solve and plenty of secret locations. Hoping for some DLC soon!

My almost 12 year old spent months looking forward to this game, but has barely played it since purchasing. Apparently the missions and the gameplay just aren't that interesting.

I decided to get it for her, but am having some issues. On the site I usually order from, there were two boxes of which one said "internet download required"

I ordered the one which didn't have that on it, as whilst we currently have one switch, it's not impossible we might get another at some point and with the game card it can be used in both.

They sent me the wrong one (which I assume is a code to download the game?) and I complained and returned it. They sent me the one I'd ordered again, but I again got the one with download required on the box. I've sent it back. They've now removed the one I ordered from their website.

Went into another shop today which online said they had the "normal" box available, but they had only the box with "internet download required" on stock.

Is it actually only available as a download? The website seemed to imply otherwise. Because then, presumably, we would have to buy it twice so both Dc could play?

With the switch you have to download, as the game discs just can't hold enough information for the whole game.

You will be able to re-download this to a new switch, if you're using the same account on the new switch!

Pinkbonbon · 07/12/2023 14:38

Along as you remember your account information you can log in to it on any switch and redownload any games you've already downloaded.

IfYourSchool · 07/12/2023 14:57

But that will only work if it's downloaded to my Nintendo account though, won't it? It won't work if e.g. the DC each have their own switch?

What's the difference between these then?

You can put your account on both switches as well as yours at the same time (you can have several accounts on one switch).

If its not the original switch the account was made on then they're require Internet access every time they play the game to check it can be played on that switch but apart from that it's fine to play.

Game data is saved to the switch, not the account. So they should be able to have different games. If not, hogwarts legacy has 3 save slots anyway.

Only issue might be I'm not sure if 2 people can play a game on the account at precisely the sane time. Maybe someone else will know.

Tbf a hard game copy is always the best option as you can resell if they get bored with it.

Flufferblub · 31/12/2023 14:05

Playing it with my 12 yo ds. He has SEN and isn't particularly into Harry Potter, but he wanted the game for Christmas and is enjoying playing it. I'm happy to play it with him and watch him play. I'm not a gamer at all, but it's a nice chill game.

Natsku · 31/12/2023 14:29

It is a nice game. I never got into Harry Potter but I am enjoying this.
