DD wants a PS4 for christmas

DD14 wants a PS4 for Xmas, specifically that, not a PS5.
I know nothing about games consoles but am pretty sure a PS4 is a few years old now. She's not a massive gamer so far using her ipad for Roblox, Genshin that kind of thing.
She specifically wants to play The Last of Us and Mario, will a PS 4 be ok?

Don't see why not. My DS still uses his PS4 for Mario. Uses PS5 for other games.

PS4 will be absolutely fine, my DCs are still playing on their PS2 & 3 (obviously only the old games)

DD got a PS4 for her birthday. We couldn't afford a PS5 (and weren't sure how much use it would actually get)! She loves it and it's perfectly capable for the type of games she likes. We got a reconditioned one from Game.

Well for a start, Mario games are NOT playable on any Playstation…

and Last Of Us can be played on either PS4 or PS5.
There is a PS5 remake and PS5s can play almost all PS4 games too.

So PS5 is a better choice but more expensive.

Mario is Nintendo so no for that. The last of us is fine on PS4 though. The PS4 still has a chunk of life left in it and they're cheaper now.

You can't play Mario on the PS4.

OP, AFAIK the PS5 is backwards compatible so if she got one she would be able to play PS4 games on it. But both TLOU games are on PS4.

We bought a refurbished one from music magpie for less than £200 (can't remember how much now), it broke about 6 months later but they replaced it as it has a 12 month warranty so I recommend them.

Just a side note, The Last of Us would 100% not be suitable for a 14-year-old. It's very very gory and has a lot of adult themes, and speaking as a 30 year old still very scary.
