XBox or PlayStation?

Thinking of getting a gaming station for our 6.5 year old for Christmas as he has tones of toys and Lego etc and I think it will be a good idea for a present and some games so he can play with daddy etc.
Which to go for though?! I'm clueless!
Any info on either and pros and cons greatly appreciated, also models to go for etc.

At that age I'd go for a Nintendo Switch.

Each console has its own exclusive games (games that are only on that console) so the best option depends on what sort of games you like best. All consoles also have third party titles that are available on all/most consoles so you can ignore those when choosing.

Nintendo switch mostly has kid focused exclusive games. Mario, Pokémon etc. Almost every game directly made by Nintendo will be great for kids. It also has the bonus of being the only one you can both play on the TV and carry around and play away from the home

PlayStation exclusives are mostly big epic story driven RPGs - personally I love these and this is my console of choice but most of these games are rated 15 or 18 so not great for a young kid.

Xbox is mostly shooting and driving games as their exclusives, perfect for teen boys but it won't have much for under 10s outside of the third party titles that will mostly be on the Nintendo switch anyway.

I'd buy a switch for them now and then go for Xbox/PlayStation in a few years when they are more mature and let them pick them based on how their taste in games as developed.
