Does anyone play Sims 4 or any game like it?

Hello one and all, a few days ago I had a bit of a shock regarding a relationship I thought was very serious. Some of you lovely ladies and/or gents said I should visit my Mum - I did just that, my step-dad put me in my old bedroom and he invited his four Sons to stay (28, 24, 22 and 14). It's been a real family gathering, my youngest step-brother is 14 and he loves Sims 4, I've spent a few lovely days with him learning how to build houses and play the game. He said I could use his account but I feel bad taking advantage of a kid so I got the game myself and spent all day yesterday downloading and playing it.

I was just wondering if anyone played Sims 4 or any games like it?

Yes! I love sims 4 😊 it tends to be something I dip in and out of. To be honest I tend to use cheats for unlimited money etc and just build until my hearts content 😂

The ones I remember similar

The Sims original and Sims 2 + add-ons
Age of empires series
Command and conquer series
Theme park
Rollercoaster tycoon series
Theme hospital
Warhammer 40k series but the base building ones
Warcraft 2 tides of darkness before warcraft became world of warcraft

I loved rollercoaster tycoon, I think I had a few of the tycoon games

@isitaline97 i did exactly this last night! 😂

SheWhoReportsToHim · 03/08/2023 09:02
  • Sims 2, 3 & 4
  • City Skylines
  • Crusader Kings
  • Skyrim
  • Dragon Age series
  • Anno series
  • ...

I don't enjoy 1st person shooters, I startle too easily. But give me something simulation/strategy/build up and I can be as obsessed as any old teen for a day!

@SheWhoReportsToHim have you ever played the Witcher 3: wild hunt? If you like Skyrim your side to like it, it's absolutely brilliant. Open world style game like Skyrim, medieval time scale, feels like it's set in Britain (although it's not) it's amazing! Beautiful graphics too

I’m 34 and married with children and I bloody love Sims 4. Once kids are in bed and DH is in the gym I switch ir straight on.

Wouldn't admit it out loud because none of my friends are gamers and I feel like they’d see it as though I was sat playing with Barbies or something. It’s great escapism.

FlamingoFlamboyance · 03/08/2023 20:24

I love the sims 4, I'm 38 and have been playing ever since the sims 1 first came out.
I am a bit addicted to custom content and mods though and sometimes just spend time downloading that instead 😂

winterchills · 03/08/2023 20:48

I loved it!! So bought it to play on my sons playstation but it just wasn't the same. Wish i had a computer/laptop!

Timeforabiscuit · 03/08/2023 20:51

Sims 4 is my happy place, i dont do it for builds, I like doing rags to riches scenarios.

For similar pacing, stardew valley is brilliant too - as a sort of gentle paced farming sim.

truthhurts23 · 03/08/2023 20:52

im more of a sims 3 person but i barely get to play on it anymore, its such a time consuming game but its a nice little escape from real life
I recreated an exact layout of my house and used it to try out decorating ideas and paint colours

Possibly the best game ever made! Although I'm not so keen on fighting, I was just so engaged by the plot. Waaaaay better than the Witcher TV show.

I was going to suggest Stardew Valley to the OP, as well, @Timeforabiscuit.

What does everyone play sims4 on? I downloaded it on to a MacBook years ago and it crashed it.
Do I need a proper computer (tower) rather than a laptop/MacBook?

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 03/08/2023 21:57

I've gone back to sims 2, it's on the MacBook AppStore. Around £30 for the game and expansion packs.

isitaline97 · 03/08/2023 22:28

@SertralineAndTherapy it's so good! I agree I play with my partner and he does a lot of the fighting, I do a lot of the story and we gwent together 😂 I could never get into the show I think it's because I played the game first 😂

@Sharralanda I used to play it on my 2013 MacBook Pro but it struggled and I couldn't use ultra settings at all! I got a Lenovo legion 5 now as I'm quite into my computer gaming it cost around £1000 a few months ago which is obviously a lot of money but some of the gaming laptops go way up into the 1000s so not the worst 😂 it runs perfect and I reckon you could spend a little less and still get it running much better than your Mac. Looking into gaming laptops :)

Gormless · 03/08/2023 22:35

I love SIMS; i find it really engrossing and therapeutic. I always know when I’m a bit stressed because I find myself wanting to play it! I’m more of a Sims 3 fan than Sims 4, but they are all beautiful, creative games.

DoAWheelie · 04/08/2023 01:00

I'm obsessed with Prison Architect at the moment, it plays similar to the old tycoon games.

WandaWonder · 04/08/2023 01:07

Is there any good android phone games like sims please?

SheWhoReportsToHim · 05/08/2023 14:43

Thanks for the suggestion / endorsement!

Indeed, I had heard it was good but did not, in fact, enjoy the Witcher TV show much so steered clear of the game.

Great to hear it's supposedly a lot better. I may just have to try it out!

For now, though: started a new sims 4 city building challenge. So far, I've got two neighbourhoods full of sims and plenty of drama:

  • Really hot wife who just wants to have tons of kids being cheated on by her husband because he hates children and just wants an escape
  • Materialistic adult siblings moved in with loaded granny to each try to get their hands on the money
  • The most eligible bachelor in town / MIL charmer is secretly a drug kingpin
  • Nice lady next door has a basement dungeon where she stashes away her vict ... erm ... I mean food ... just vampire problems!

Having a blast!
