Console for 6yr old to play Minecraft?

Hello, we are not really a computery / gaming household.

My 6 year old has started to get really into Minecraft and is desperate to play it. Also "Among Us" and I'm guessing at some point, Roblox.

What are my options for consoles or whatever for him to play on?

I downloaded it onto his Kindle Fire (£4.99) but it was dreadful, a complete waste of a fiver. It straight away came up with an error saying it would be completely unsupported in November, and we tried to get it to work for a while but it was a non starter.

We used to have a PS4 pre-kids (or maybe a PS3? I can't remember) but have no knowledge of Xbox or Nintendo switch.

Or would a desktop pc be best? We both currently have laptops for work use, but no home computer. We don't really have anywhere to put one, but I'm wondering if we are going to need one in the future anyway for schoolwork etc maybe we should get one and find space?

Any help gratefully received!

My son has the Xbox for Minecraft and my daughter plays it on the iPad.

Hi there,
if he’s playing on his own, I’d suggest a switch, it will have the simplest interface and has some parental control options from an app if you’re into that.
You can also quite easily block any online connection.
But if he’s got friends I’d mirror what they have.

Pc would also work well, Think it would be Windows with Steam (so a bit of setting up and some accounts to make)
Hope that helps!

Thank you @mrjelli !

Yes I think we are probably going to go for a switch. At this age he will just be playing alone. We are not very techy so the pc route would be a struggle for us.

Think there are some deals on switches with Mario kart so will get that and then buy Minecraft and Among us, which he also keeps going on about.

Thank you Smile

For that age a switch my DS plays all these on a Samsung tablet depends if you want an actual console or not

Kindles aren't very good once they start putting things like this on we've a galaxy tablet for him

Shmithecat2 · 29/11/2022 19:47

My ds plays both of those games on his Samsung ipad. He does have a Nintendo switch, but never really reaches for it.

Shmithecat2 · 29/11/2022 19:48

Samsung TABLET, not ipad 😳

Yes, we've got a Kindle Fire and paid £4.99 to download Minecraft and it was completely unusable. A complete waste of money.

Think we will go with the switch.

Same with mine

You can't go wrong with a switch - probably worth getting one you can use with the TV and handheld as there are lots of family games you might want to play in future.

Switch in three households here, user friendly for small hands, and means life is easier for gift givers

Mozartinmyfanjo · 29/11/2022 19:58

My DS played all of these games, on laptop, PC, switch and iPad. He found iPad by far the best, and the easiest to use. He never got into switch version of Minecraft.

Yes, I had seen the switch lite, but I think will get normal switch so can hook up to tv.

Mine uses the switch
