Animal Crossing New Horizons question

I know there are lots of Animal Crossing fans on here. I'd quite like to get it for myself as a little present (as well as a Switch). We are getting DD a Switch for her birthday and I wondered - will she be able to play Animal Crossing on her Switch as well? I think I understand that she would not be able to visit my island and would just have a separate island of her own, but is this possible? Thanks - I hope this is not a daft question!

Also...do you need to play every day?

She would be able to play on her switch but you can't both play at the same time unless you buy a second game cartridge
