Stupid question alert re Xbox series x or s

I'd appreciate any wise words regarding getting DS3 an Xbox please. He's almost 13 and massively into racing cars.
So as far as I can see, trying to get an xbox series x console is like trying to find rocking horse shit at the moment. If I bought the xbox series s, could he download Forza 5 on it, or just 4??
Or should I just stick with finding an xbox one and getting forza 4 (presumably no 5 wouldn't work with this console). Any help appreciated!

Hello hello DH is stuggling to get an xbox and I've feel I'm now an expert I've heard so much about it!
So if you get a series S you're tied into downloading games off the xbox store and it has limited memory so is quite limited.
Most games are backwards compatable so will work on the xbox one too but always double check. If you do get an S therez no disk drive so cant use it to watch dvds or buy second hand games for example.
Its difficult to know what to do as an xbox one will soon be obsolite (and still costs a fair bit of cash) but at the same time series x is unavailable so I'm not sure what to advise I guess its a case of weighing up pros and cons for your DS

Another unintentional expert here. If he’s desperate for one now then I’d get a second hand Xbox one to do for now and then get an x when they eventually trickle through. I wouldn’t buy a new one or s at this point.

Yes. On a series s, you can download any game from the Microsoft store on the Xbox. Huge catalogue and you have access to the backwards compatible games too from older consoles. There is also the game pass that has quite a few racing games on and a lot of in general. Would highly recommend! as it saves on the high prices of some of the games. I would personally recommend the forza horizon games as well as the ones you mentioned. Very fun and I think a 13 year would probably love them (these are on game pass too). The x is not really necessary in my opinion. I have the s and it’s great! just remember that you can’t play discs on it, only downloads from either the Microsoft store or you can buy download versions of games in shops too now or on Amazon etc

My DS got a series S for his Xmas last year. It does everything he wants need (he has a Series X at his dads and does the exact same on both) he has requested an external hard drive for his Xmas this year due to low memory though

An S will be fine unless he wants it to watch DVD/blu-ray on. There is always the option to add an external hard drive if space becomes an issue later on. My DP has an S. DS has a 6 year old Xbox one on it's last legs, but is hanging on to get a series X as he already has a lot of games on disc.

Highly recommend game pass ultimate too

My son has the series s last year, he had the memory expansion for his birthday.
