Easy to play switch (lite) games

My 8 year old got a switch lite for his birthday. He's currently enjoying mario kart, but has little patience and concentration levels to learn/understand new things, including games it seems.

He has minecraft but none of us can work out how to do anything on it (we're not a gaming family!).

I'd like him to try something where characters work their way through different worlds, collect coins or some sort of reward, maybe overcome baddies along the way....but controls need to be quite simple/intuitive.

Can anyone recommend something that fits into the above please? I'm wondering if there's some mario game which fits the description....?

I'm a good 30 years older than your DS but also not a gamer and I LOVED Luigi's Mansion 3 on Switch Lite.

There are baddies (ghosts, some harder to beat than others) and gems to find and collect on each floor, although you don't have to collect them all to finish the game as I remember.

I'd say the hardest bit control wise is when you also use 'Gooigi' which is another Luigi made of goo(!) to play certain parts, but it just takes practice.

I found it more fun than some of the Mario platform type games because it's not as frantic, you can take your time exploring everything thoroughly.

animal crossing

Animal Crossing is easy to play (assuming good reading comprehension) but very much a slow burn with a lot of 'real time' waiting for things to happen. Possibly not great for short attention spans.

Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee maybe. Pretty easy, but at the same time does give stuff to learn and plenty of reading.

The Lego games are good fun and pretty simple to play.
