Does anyone play -is it anyone good?

I think you can play it online or in real life as a board game. Do you pick a character?

Thanks in advance for any hints and tips. There is a starter set on Amazon -but I'd like some feedback from someone who plays already!

It is fab!

You build your own character and they grow and level throughout the game. You choose how to play your character (lawful, evil, quirky, shy etc.)

It is a bit more complicated than a board game as lots of imagination and role play involved but if you have people who would play with you I highly recommend it.

We've been playing about 4 years now and will continue for many years.

DnD is a great game! Especially if you like roleplaying, but you don't necessarily have to be good at it to enjoy it. You can do both irl or online(I play with Discord friends so we can only do online), either using Tabletop Simulator for a PC or one of a variety of websites too(Roll20 is my recommendation for that).
Creating a character can seem quite complicated if you see what the character sheet looks like but it's not that bad, a tiny bit of simple maths. It's mostly design and abilities. Some campaigns(like my first) come with pre-prepared characters.
I'm assuming you want to play rather than DM? The Player's Handbook is a good first thing to get, especially when creating a character. 5e is the edition most people use.
Sorry this has become a text wall I love this game xD
