Fortnite is evil

I have been changed over £400 from my son playing Fortnite. Multiple purchases. If you Google it Fortnite has things you purchase without authorization or consent. It just automatically comes out of your account. £400 later, switch is in the bin and a servere telling off.

This is such a legal con.

Can't believe they can get away with this.

Bank were pretty useless, and can not for the life of me find a telephone number for Nintendo.

If you are thinking of letting your children play Fortnite be warned.

For the record it's not in the bin. It is however in a very secure place ds can't get to. Ds is normally very good and will ask, tell me about any purchases or similar he has found prior to buying. however Fortnite does not have purchase confirmations, so it is not easy to tell when you have purchased something and also easier to amount a large bill. There are countless people who have reached much larger bills than mine. I was unaware that they saved your card details as switch was not that old. Not all devices remember your details. On Fortnite it is easy to make purchases without even realising it. Through costumes and v bucks. He would play Minecraft and there was a whole section of extra things you can buy but it was very clear that these were purchases. Fortnite is different. Just be aware of this if you are thinking of letting your kids play it. No wonder it's free to download they recoup far more much money this way.

It also changes their personality

Fortnite here. He is limited to an hour a day and there are no card details attached to the account. To be honest it's been really good for him to stay in touch with his friends over lockdown so I can't quite say it's totally evil. Because he's always had the strict time limits we haven't had too many issues when it runs out as it's the norm

It also changes their personality

That is a different issue.
Also it has a 12 rating. Your decision to allow him to play it at 8 was not wise. He will probably be happier without it.

My 10 year old has been playing it for 2 years and not once made an accidental purchase. If you're going to allow your children to use tech unsupervised you really need to get to grips with restrictions and know what it is they are on, racking up high bills is one of the least scary risks in my opinion!

BiBabbles · 21/07/2021 12:00

I think anything overdone can lead to unpleasant personality changes, but these games are designed to make them want to overdo without careful guidance and time blocks.

I'm reminded of when my spouse put passwords on every device after I think DD2 was then 11 months old reached over when he'd left his Vita on the table and hit 'purchase' on a game. They do make it easy, because they want it to be easy spend money...but they also make it mostly easy to put in our own barriers to that.

Why is it people come onto these forums looking for advice or help. And people just give them abuse

You didn't come on here looking for advice or help, you just slated Fortnite declaring it was evil because you didn't realise the game retained your card details.

And people were helpful, saying they too had experienced similar problems and managed to get their money back.

The switch is in the bin!? You know you could sell it and recoup your losses right? The tablet alone youd get 150ish for on Ebay.

It also changes their personality

Then the big question is why are you letting them play it? Seriously, you need to take some responsibility for your parenting choices here.
