Need a 'keep my brain active' game for my phone

In my mid 50s and suffering with brain fog, worried its start I'd dementia. I need a game for my phone that will keep my brain active, preferably varied and not all maths. Anyone got any recommendations.

How about an app to learn a language? Duolingo is good as a starter. Learning a new language is really really good for your brain. I'm a bit brain foggy these days (possibly partly due to undiagnosed food intolerance, but also about to hit 50), and learning Spanish definitely helps my memory and focus.

I play Woody Battle, once you really get in to it you realise there's certain blocks that are rare so I take that into account when positioning others

There's also Woody which isn't against other people and it's not timed either so more relaxed

Trivia Royale

I'm already learning Spanish on duolingo, but thanks anyway.

I love Elevate, it's expensive unfortunately but has a really good range of activities.

Imtoooldforallthis · 11/01/2021 09:56

OK Trivia Royale is not for me, no thought involved just questions, need something more problem solving.

Cryptic crosswords are good for this. There are lots of guides for how to begin (each newspaper has slightly different rules).

Chess app (chess.com) is good, because you can play against the computer or other people.

Language learning is excellent.

Eat green leafy veg too.

Brain fog is also associated with the menopause- is that likely for you?

bestbefore · 11/01/2021 10:33

Killer sudoko. Brain fog might be menopause related?

Imtoooldforallthis · 11/01/2021 11:39

Oh yes it's definately menopause I know that for sure, but would like to help keep my brain as active as I can as I'm sure I will get dementia as all the family have so anything I can do to try help would be good.

Have you joined one of the support threads on the menopause board? They may have lots of ideas, and will certainly be supportive. Thanks

I love playing Evolution board game app, or try another strategy game like Ticket to Ride. There are loads, for the price of less than a paperback book.

Was gonna also say, a really simple thing to activate your brain is to change your routine physically too. So, if you usually brush your hair with your right hand, do it with your left etc. Reorganize your cupboards so you have to relearn where you've put everything. Walk upstairs sideways. Change the order of your morning routine so you force yourself to think what is left to be done. And so on.

purpleproses · 11/01/2021 11:59

QuizUp is good for that.

purpleproses · 11/01/2021 12:01

Have you looked at Peak? That's good for problem solving.

Not on your phone, but the i newspaper is only 65p and has four pages of puzzles everyday (more at weekends).
