Anybody with a ps5 excited for The Last of us 2 tomorrow?
Loved the story in the first game. Excited to see where they take the story in the new one.
Me and my partner plan on taking it in turns while the other entertains our 4 month. Fingers crossed she behaves 🤞

Well I have a PS4 abd stayed playing yesterday and then 7 hours today. It's pretty good!

Effsee · 20/06/2020 23:50

Think I'm about 3/4 hours in. 4 month old keeps interrupting, which is fine 😅

This game hurts my soul 🤫

Came here to start a thread about it. Just completed it. Hope your DD has given you chance to get into it! Absolute masterpiece.

Effsee · 24/06/2020 06:19

Manage to get about 2-3 hours in the evening 😄
I'm loving it so far, but I can understand why some people are being a bit funny about it. Some things had to happen cough cough no matter how sad it is.
I'm on the bit where I play as another character, who's gone to search for another character (Seattle day 1) No clue how far into the story I am and how much game I've got left😂

I'd say you're about half way through. The thing that happened absolutely threw me for six with it happening so soon on in the game! I can't remember if you're far on enough to know why it happened yet so I won't give any of my feelings about it away. Keep me posted how you're finding it because I don't know anyone in actual real life who I can talk about it with! 😂

Effsee · 24/06/2020 23:44

I felt the same way about it happening so soon. So out of character!
Yeah I know the reason why. Completely justified and yet it still pains me. First part of the game we're doing terrible things because of revenge, and I'm all for it. Like fuck those guys. And you play it from the other side and I'm like "well yeah, we were the bad guys at the start... but still fuck these lot." I get what they're trying to do and it's clever story telling, but I still feel the same way about that 'incident' so soon in the game. Not sure if that was the intention.

I just love the story telling in this game. Visually it's stunning too, seeing how nature has taken over all the cities and how the post apocalyptic world looks like.

God I love last of us so much...

I started this on the PS4 on Saturday but I've only managed about 10 hours altogether. I can't believe what happened happened. I'm livid and I want to replay the part where you control Abby so I can feed her to the hordes over and over again ☺️ won't really help but I may feel a bit better.

Effsee · 25/06/2020 11:34

Funny you say that about abby because at the start when you played her I was curious if you could fall off ledges and cliffs (unlike the first game). So I jumped off the cliff and thought "oh shit. I'll have to be careful in this game." I also died alot with the horses trying to get used to the controls and combat again.
Thinking back now, wish she stayed at the bottom of that cliff 😂

Hordes not horses 🙈

I went out of my way to die as Abby a few times to make myself feel better too. 😬 I also resented upgrading her supplements and weapons because I didn't want her to be as boss as Ellie! But I realised I wasn't going far in the game without some tactical upgrades 😂 is it just me who doesn't remember stalkers?! Apparently they were in the first game but I do not remember them!

Effsee · 25/06/2020 12:58

Haha I've been reluctant to upgrade her too even though it won't make a difference.
Yeah I don't remember stalkers, but my god are they freaky bastards!

It's strange. If the order of the game was different and we played as abby before everything kicked off, I might have liked her. She's a strong woman who can hold her own, and when it comes down to it she doesn't seem like a bad person (obvious event excluded)
Like if we played as her first and don't find out what she does till later, the game would have a completely different feel. Whereas the way it's happened we're playing as ellie and know what we've done is wrong but we're cool with it 😂

Ive just finished this. I feel emotionally brutalised. Loved the game enormously but my god it was hard to play at times. I had to pause it on numerous occasions to collect my thoughts, and at one point had this weird mini breakdown where I was literally crying, then laughing at myself crying, and basically ended up snorting and gasping.

I absolutely loved Abby, btw, and empathised with her much more than other characters. I was rooting for her.

Effsee · 27/06/2020 23:59

Me and my partner finished yesterday. It's hard to fully digest at first isn't it. I absolutely loved it but you're right, it was brutal. Gave us alot to think about. Fantastic story telling and the way it makes you feel all these emotions along with the characters you play.

Third part of the game I was very disappointed in Ellie, but we were never meant to like what she did I suppose. She couldn't let go of that grief. By the end near the pillars I was feeling overwhelmed and tense by what was playing out. I felt so so sorry for abby and looking at how skinny she was compared to what we played her as.... the brutality of it really hit me in the face. I actually felt really uncomfortable during their final confrontation. I was relieved by how it ended but also a bit like "um ok. You came all this way and nearly died for what?"
In the end it was nice to see her let go or at least try to live with that grief and hate etc and decided to end the cycle of violence. Abby was 100% the lesser of 2 evils. I do sort of feel like Ellie deserved to be alone by the end. Like those are the consequences of the path she decided to go down.
Just shows how excellent the story telling was for us to go from hating abby to understanding her and seeing her in a new light, and then disagreeing with alot of what Ellie was doing.

I could talk about this game all day 😂
Overall very different feeling I got from the first game (that was the point) and I prefer that still to the 2nd but definitely a fantastic game with a heartbreaking story to tell.

For me, the parallel stories worked a bit too well... the apparently random killing as Ellie, then later realising exactly who you killed.

My little mini breakdown came about when I realised what I’d done (as Ellie) to a non-human character, which weirdly felt worse somehow.

burnoutbabe · 15/08/2020 13:55

Finally finished. I took a month break after finishing the first day 3 to play Spider-Man!
By the end I do didn't want to do that final fight, I was on the other side totally to who I was playing as.
I have zero desire to replay it at all. One and done!
I did love the accessibility options and did in fact turn then in during the hospital fight in the dark, so I could see where I was going!
And slo no when aiming was handy!

I recently completed a second playthrough and I highly recommend it - you can really take in the characters and the environment and notice little things you may have missed before. Personally I enjoyed my time with Abby much more the second time when she was no longer a stranger.
