Anyone play Magic the Gathering?

I know this forum isn’t really about board games, but am not sure where else to post this! I’ve been looking for a board/card game to play with DH. Like the look of Magic the Gathering. But am so confused about where to start, there seem so many sets you can buy! Some people recommend a ‘planewalker’ set, but I can’t even tell if that’s for two people or one. And there’s a lot of focus on building decks, but does that mean both of you have to do this, so you can’t just have a basic deck and play? Anyone who plays it and can give me some really really basic info about this would be really appreciated!

If you are not sure try some of the duel decks.

They are ok to start with and you can choose various themes.

If you decide you like the game you can then decide whether you want to devote your life to the time and money pit that is magic (not necessarily in a bad way if you like the game).

Other ccg starter decks are available such as the yu gi oh structure decks.

But it has been a long time since I played.

Second the recommendation of duel decks. It's a good introduction.

I would try and get to a shop where they have demonstration games and tournaments and see what people recommended.

Look on Facebook for a gaming shop near you. My son was interested in Yu Gi oh and I was clueless and found a shop which sold all sorts of games nearby and which did tournaments. They have been incredibly helpful to us starting him off with the right kit.

Ooo great thanks, that makes sense! I had seen recommendations for ‘starter sets’ (but these are slated elsewhere), and planewalker sets, plus boosters and various others, hadn’t come across duel decks, will go for one of those and give it a try!

Don’t have much opportunity to get to gaming shops sadly (to be fair we don’t have much opportunity to play games either!!)
