What tablet for kids to Minecraft on?

Evenin’ all,
Please may i pick your brains? I’m not a gamer, and have less than one clue about any of it.
My 8yo DS has got into Minecraft, and loves it deeply. At the moment he’s mostly playing it on my very old, glitchy, and prone to crashing iPad. It’s barely usable at times, so he’s also enjoying it on his dad’s PS4.
I was planning to get him a cheap tablet for xmas, really as cheap as possible, so that he can Minecraft on a reliable device.
Any recommendations hugely appreciated, as i am not techy and DH leans the other way and would get him something inappropriately expensive if i left it to him. DS also has ASD and is prone to violent meltdowns at times, usually destroying things he loves, so i refuse to buy expensive kit now.

We're getting my autistic 6 year old a Nintendo Switch Lite with Minecraft on it for Christmas. It looks the most likely to survive his enthusiam (he's like a bouncing bean when he plays). Also means he can take it out and play calmer stuff when needed.

My understanding is that iPads use minecraft pocket edition and it’s better played on a PC or good laptop. This is better for posture as well, rather than being sat hunched over an iPad.

Not sure how other consoles compare.

Kindle fire only supports the pocket version. We're getting dd a switch lite too

I’m getting DS an upgrade from a 4 year old kids kindle fire to a Samsung tablet and he will use this for minecraft pocket edition.

As far as DS has specified the pocket edition is just fine.
