What is discord?

Can anyone in the know tell me what discord is? Saw it downloaded on dp's phone. From what I gather it's a chat app for gamers but whenever we plays his pvp game (which is usually only once or twice a week) he uses a headset and chats online via the game. Why would he need an app on his phone too? Is it for talking while on the go?

I don't mind him gaming but I do sometimes wonder who he's talking to. He's not secretive as such but this has just made me wonder....

Its just a chat app either via voice or typing, so for example he can type to specific people or if he isnt on the game then he can message people still, me and my partner are on it as we game and if we made friends on a game then we would contact eachother via Discord BUT what your asking is if it is entirely possible he could be using the app to talk to other woman right?

Discord is chatting app, he can txt using it as well as using a headset. My DS has it on his phone as well, so he can arrange to meet up with his friends. He uses it to talk to online friends as well as his friends irl.

Discord is a multi platform gamers chat site - my partner uses it as not all of his friends are playing games on the same console, and also because the sound quality etc is invariably better than using the in game servers too.

It’s for general chat about specific games including arranging online game contests (or Pokemon Go meet-ups). I’d be worried about my children having it, because it does have a dark side (online predators), but not my DH. But I’m not an expert.

Thanks. I can see that he only downloaded it last night while he was actually on the game so maybe it was something his fellow gamers were talking about and encouraging him to get. He's been playing the game for a long time and has a group of people who he usually plays with so it wouldn't be unusual for him to want to keep in touch.

Not sure how I feel about him being able to text and talk while not on the game though as he has never really spoke to any of them irl just purely for the game.

Dh uses it to chat with his gaming friends when he's not at his computer. It possible he talks to women, but if it's just about setting up a group on Arma or something I wouldn't worry!

@Rubberduckies yes he is a gamer. Maybe only goes on once or twice a week now but in the past he has played a lot and it's always the same game so obviously he has made friends/people he comes across regularly on there.

If it's purely for game chat I'll try not to worry. His gaming has never bothered me but sometimes I do wonder who he's talking to. He once told me a couple he knows met through the game so I do wonder!!!

It’s a very popular app with online gamers so the simple explanation that his bunch of mates decided to set themselves up a Discord chat group is by far the most likely one.
