PS4 complete novice - recommendations please!

Hi,
My husband has recently rediscovered his PS4 and I'm a little bit jealous!
I had one as a teen but hardly ever played it. I've tried having a go with his games - COD and the new ish American western one, can't think of the name, but I find them really confusing and im finding it hard getting a feel for the controls.
It is possible to pick it up as an adult or are all the games just too complicated?!
Any recommendations for games that might suit an adult entry level player to help me get used to it?
Sorry if this has been done before, I don't usually come to this board, obviously!

You can definitely pick it up as an adult, my MIL got an Xbox One for her 60th birthday. We are an Xbox family (so the games might not be available on PS4) but I find the Lego games easy to play and fun even though they are 'kids' games. My MIL enjoys the Tomb Raider games. I think they are available on PS4, but Spyro and Crash Bandicoot are probably not too challenging (I haven't played them, but they are on my Amazon Wishlist for when I get more time to game).

My SIL has a PS4 and I'm sure she plays Uncharted, Zero Horizon Dawn and The Last of Us.

If you are entering this from a beginner's perspective, you should likely start with basics. The games industry expands on itself hundreds of times per year, so certain fundamental gameplay mechanics are lost in time. Games I would recommend trying are Minecraft first- mostly to get used to moving and using the controller, as it's a fairly forgiving game. From there you can move onto basically anything, though most games will have their own twist on the genre. For reference: Titanfall (and it's predecessor, Titanfall 2) are competitors to Call of Duty (and with the release of Apex Legends recently, Titanfall 2 has begun to rise in player populations again) Titanfall's twist on the genre is fast-paced movement, which takes time to get used to.

For clarification: Play a simple game first to learn the basics and gain a feel for the controls. Most games will include a tutorial in them which will help you a lot in figuring out what you're doing. Once you have the basic understanding of how to play most games, you should just use google to search for games you may like- though before you buy, to make sure you get value out of your purchases, do try to look at reviewer sites and news articles relating to games you're purchasing. The games industry right now is going through a shady phase and it would be best to watch your back.

What kind of games do you like? There's different genres as well as different difficulties of games. Scrunchy is right, the Lego games are fantastic and they are co-op so you can play together (I play Lego with DH, it's nice to be cooperating rather than versus on PS4 because we are different skill levels in different games and it's annoying).

Minecraft is super fun and addictive too, it's a more creative game tan having an actual purpose to it. yes there's an Ender dragon to fight, but it's more about building stuff.

What did you play when you were younger? Lots of PSone games are available in the store so you can have a blast from the past - Spyro and Crash have been relaunched with updated graphics.

I'm 59 and love playing COD and Uncharted but I've been playing since my early late 30s / early 40s when my children got a PlayStation.Crash Team Racing is my all time favourite we played against each other it was fun for all the family.

I love the Kingdom Hearts games, Unchartered, Tomb Raider and all the Lego games and Spyro

Minecraft is a really good one. What sorts of things do you want to do in the game? Do you want to play through a pretty linear story, or would you prefer to be able to explore and go off on different tracks? Do you like puzzles, or games that require good hand-eye coordination, or do you want to build or train your character? I'm not big on games with a lot of shooting because I don't have the skill, but Little Big Planet 3 has a nice learning curve of hand-eye coordination, and it's very cute. If you want exploration and building, No Man's Sky is pretty cool - you get to fly around in a massive universe and you can have like your own planet and stuff. It's a massive time sink though. Well, they all are!
