Downloaded app. Set up log ins for me and for dd. Can't work out what to do next. Help!

I've just downloaded it too. I think we're just going to go for a walk and see what happens.

Orangebird69 · 02/01/2017 09:36

Yep. Go for a walk. Find some pokestops. Collect some goodies, preferably pokeballs. As soon as you've caught enough it'll walk you through how to join a team etc.

Go for a walk somewhere central. Places that are landmarks in some way are often pokestops where you can collect items like poke balls by spinning the blue circle you see there. You have to be stood quite close by to the stop location.

ChilliMum · 02/01/2017 09:42

You should be able to see on the app where your nearest pokestops are. You can touch them and it will show a photo.
Head out to a couple of stops. Collect poke balls by spinning the stop on your app when you get there (swipe it) and there are usually a few pokemen at the stop to get you going.

Nope. Where do I see the stops on the app?

What are you seeing on your screen?

SavoyCabbage · 02/01/2017 10:14

They are blue shapes, like a cube on a stick. They are usually places of some interest. Church, a lake, a statue. If you like rurally you might not see any.

Can you see roads?

SavoyCabbage · 02/01/2017 10:15

If you 'pinch' the screen you will see a greater distance. Like on google maps.

SittingDrinkingTea · 02/01/2017 10:17

You should be seeing something like this. The blue things are the pokestops, depending on where you live there may not be as many in your local area as in the picture.

Of course the first thing is to tap on one of the 3 Pokémon that appear and lob a ball at it! Marvel at the virtual reality (my first bulbasaur was hanging off our calendar) and then turn ar off so it's playable!

Thank you everyone. We weren't even getting to the map stage which is , I agree, user friendly and no problem at all. We were doing seemingly endless log ins, sign ups, agree to terms. It took me nearly 20 flaming attempts. But then it started working and dd has really enjoyed. We're going on a last day of the holidays trip tomorrow with family that she doesn't really like so this will help hugely- we are going to an urban area for the meet up.

We have also a fun explanation as to why our cat occasionally runs mad about the house. She's hunting them down.

It took me a while to suss that you have to swish the pokestop round to release the goodies.

It took me even longer to work out that you activate a lure through the little blank rectangle above the picture in the pokestop screen.

Start putting eggs in incubators. Eggs often hatch stronger, more interesting pokemon, and even if it is a naff one, it's still good for collecting star dust and candies.

raindripsonruses · 04/01/2017 21:16

Thank you Some. Worryingly, I know exactly what you are talking about!
