Recommendations for 6 year old wanting a 3DS?

My DD would love a 3DS for Christmas but aside from the fact I'm not even sure she has seen one or used one it doesn't look suitable for her age group and the games don't seem to be things that would really interest her.

I am a total novice here but does anyone have any advice one way or another, perhaps just getting her a tablet and downloading some apps (she loves the iPad) would be a better way to go?

2ds is cheaper and can play all the 3ds games. It just doesn't have the 3d part, which isn't really good for her eyes anyway and gets old very quickly. Also the 2ds is all one piece (and you can order plastic covers online for them), so no weakness with the hinges - every person I know that has had a 3ds break has had the break where the hinges were.

My ds uses his ipad mini much more than his 2ds. 2ds is limited in comparison to ipad or tablet.

What does she actually like playing? I second getting a 2ds (a second hand one if the prices work out right), there is a large games catalogue so you can look through which titles would be suitable for her age range and then you'll have a good idea of what might appeal before you commit.

Thanks. She enjoys pet care/ doing manicures type games in the iPad. Didn't see many that I thought would appeal as she likes drawing/ creative stuff. I think she is intrigued by the mario brothers too!
