Which Wii for nearly 7yo?

DS (6.5) is really keen to get a Wii - he started being helpful in August because he'd decided on his own that that was the way to get one for Christmas.

I don't know much about them - but if I do get one, do I need a Wii or a Wii U? And why is this one twice the price of this one? If I get the first, can I then buy older Wii games second hand for it? Or might I just as well, at that point, get a secondhand Wii?

I agree with you entirely, there is something very odd going on with these threads. I don't know whether it is salespeople, or what. I find it a bit bizarre. :/

For the record,if it was a concern for you, GameHub is a blog and advice service that I run in my spare time to try and help parents navigate the world of video games. I'm looking at setting up seminars and classes at some point in the future, but I'm certainly not here to try to sell games or consoles! The only agenda I have is to try to help parents, because I see a need for it, and I know the damage it can do if somebody gets it wrong. I get a kick out of helping people! Its nice to see the feedback when you know you have been able to match somebody to a game they are going to love, same as you might get from recommending a film or a book. :)

making i wouldn't have a 6yo connecting online and communicating with strangers on any of the consoles - to believe one is 'family friendly' and rely on that as a means to protect your child is naive to say the least imo.
