Wii dance games

Firstly, We Dance versus Just Dance - anybody think one is better than the other? Secondly, I don't understand whether they need dance mats or not - something I read made me think that you can either use them or not, but surely if you need one then you need one, so how can you do without?

Am confused. Please help.

I know nothing of Dance games, I doubt any need a mat, if they do it would be bundled with it, Just Dance is the one that everyone gets so there must be a reason for that.
