My friends daughter is vegan, we’re planning on doing raclette this Christmas.

Any good vegan alternatives to the Gouda we’ll be using for ours?

The thread title is almost a trades description violation isnt it?

Applewood vegan block is good for melting

Jigglyhuffpuff · 17/11/2025 06:17

Yeah there are no nice vegan cheeses and certainly not for a replacement for raclette. Most are just coconut oil with yellow colouring and salt. Even the more pricey nut based cheeses are weird tasting and won't work with raclette. You're better off thinking of a complete replacement for the meal.

It won’t taste like raclette but any nacho cheese recipe featuring carrot and potato will make a great dipping cheese. Don’t skip the oil though.

'La Fauxmagerie' and 'I am Nut OK' products are amazing but I'm not sure if they do anything suitable for a raclette.

There are many options here but some are definitely better than others! Maybe ask your daughter's friend as she may have a preference: saporia.com/collections/cheese

Thanks all, I emailed a little vegan shop I know of and she’s given me a couple of ideas but I don’t think any of them will be perfect. She’ll have to have a non cheesy raclette

Last time I had vegan cheese on toast it almost superglued my mouth together 😂

I think this would be my preference too as a vegan guest.

You might be better making a very garlicky white sauce to dip things in.

I used Violife sliced cheese last year for raclette. I was happy and im
die hard French 😬
