London restaurants with good vegan and non-vegan options?

I'm looking for a bit of a special (but doesn't have to be michlen star or anything) restaurant for a birthday but it would be good if it had vegan and non-vegan options. Any recommendations for places in London?

Sushisamba or Dishoom

Nopi.

Honey & Smoke or Honey & Co. Both by the same team and the food is fabulous. They do sharer menus where you get to share lots of mezze dishes (which are exceptional) and most are vegan so it works brilliantly for mixed guests and then you choose your own main. I prefer Honey and Smoke because I love grilled food, but Honey & Co is delicious and arguably the restaurant itself is prettier and therefore feels a bit more special.

I’m afraid I disagree with a PP’s suggestion of Dishoom. Not only is the food pretty average (apart from their delicious breakfasts), but I don’t think it’s a good place for a special meal. They are cavernous restaurants and while prettily done up, feel like giant cafes with indifferent food and service. (Sorry PP!)

If you do want exceptional Indian food, then Gunpowder is far better and has great vegan and meat dishes (as do most Indian restaurants).

All the above is based on the quality of the food and because they have great vegan options. I know some people are more into atmosphere than food for special occasions and I’m not sure if my suggestions necessarily fit the bill. It really depends on what you want!

Thank you everyone, some great suggestions!!

I also agree that Dishoom is not great. Me and DH were really looking forward to going there but were very disappointed.

Oxo Tower was nice.

Tas restaurants - there are several branches. Tas Pide is close to the river, next to the Globe theatre. Tas Bloomsbury is close to the British Museum. Lovely Turkish food.

Ooh yes, forgot about Tas - used to go there quite a lot! I've also been recommended Babula, but it's booked up on the day we want to go.

Tendril but is all vegan im afraid

App13 · 28/01/2024 18:12

Rovi, I recollect our fellow vegan diner had a decent meal there

Wildhorses2244 · 28/01/2024 18:13

+1 for the oxo tower restaurant- suprisingly good veggie and vegan options, alongside decent meat choices

StoatofDisarray · 28/01/2024 18:13

Mallow is very nice mallowlondon.com.

Bubala is fantastic. They don’t serve any meat - but even as a big meat eater I often go there. They relatively recently opened a new restaurant. Are they both booked up on your date?

Yes! Completely booked up, so it must be good! Will definitely go there but need to book well in advance.

Not London, but if anyone ever goes to the Chew Valley south of Bristol, go to the Pony, which was the Pony and Trap pub.

You have to let them know in advance but I had the most amazing vegan meal there!

vincettenoir · 30/01/2024 18:38

Bubula is £40 ph and the food is great. They have a vegan menu and a non vegan menu. Based in Soho and Spitalfields.

vincettenoir · 30/01/2024 18:39

Just noticed someone already said it.

Beebeesmith · 30/01/2024 18:40

We went to Ember Yard in Soho, the service was great and the food was very tasty with plenty of vegan options. Cocktails were pretty good too. I'd recommend it.

Beebeesmith · 30/01/2024 18:41

Have also been to Bubula which was lovely but a bit noisy and squashed in for me.

vincettenoir · 30/01/2024 18:43

This might seem a bit leftfield but I had amazing Vegan food at The Ivy. A really gorgeous pannacotta. They do a reasonably priced set lunch and they are v pretty inside. They are no longer the place where c list celebs go to get mentioned in the tabloids.

Tuftily · 30/01/2024 18:56

Thanks everyone, noting all of these down...

Not smart but Mildred’s is really good

Evenstar · 30/01/2024 19:09

We bought one of our sons who is vegetarian vouchers for Mildred’s and he thinks the food is really good
