Just bought two large, freshly made from pizza counter ,vegan pizzas .
Says vegan on front ,vegan on back
Then in ingredients
Pork beef milk
Check before you eat
They have also recalled a ready meal for having pork ,beef ,milk in it

If it’s freshly made is the label wrong? How can they have put those ingredients on it if it’s been made at the counter?

drspouse · 03/03/2022 02:59

Is it not under traces of/made in an area that handles these, for allergy purposes?

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/03/2022 03:20

"Pork, beef, milk" in a ready meal? One, or all those ingredients?

GandTfortea · 03/03/2022 06:49

The lasagna has been recalled
I assumed the meat had got in the base somehow

Let's see the labels?

Cablefable · 03/03/2022 06:52

@YforWanky

Let's see the labels?
Yes if one says vegan and the ingredients list that it'd be very surprising.
NannyR · 03/03/2022 06:53

Is it a "may contain" label? As in, it doesn't contain those things but it's made on the same line as products that do, so they can't guarantee it doesn't have traces.

Luckingfovely · 03/03/2022 07:00

If it's freshly made, I agree it must be 'might' label.

Share a picture so that we can see, otherwise it's fairly pointless scaremongering.

stuntbubbles · 03/03/2022 07:21

Isn’t it like one of those “made nearby some nuts, doesn’t contain nuts but may have nut waft” disclaimers, rather than “we’ve put beef in the toppings”?

SoupDragon · 03/03/2022 07:27

I would think it is a labelling mistake at the counter in this instance.

However, it is obviously not acceptable - you can't know whether it's the vegan or ingredients' label that is wrong.

wingscrow · 03/03/2022 07:31

Take a picture of pizza and label and make sure you share it on social media. I am vegan too and this is the type of stuff that makes me really angry.

If they can't guarantee that it is being made in an environment where it wont be contaminated by meat/dairy products then they should not be labelling it 'vegan'.

gogohm · 03/03/2022 07:38

I buy sainsburys pizza. It says on the label that it's made in an environment that handles milk, pork and nuts ... it's to cover themselves because they don't have a separate prep area. If you want guaranteed vegan or allergen free you need to buy the prepackaged sealed ones. Very few places have a completely separate vegan area even if they have a vegetarian area because of space

Bambozled33 · 03/03/2022 07:40

Message them on social media. They are really quick to respond (sent them a picture of a very long hair in my Apple pie last night 🤮 and within an hour they had sent me a refund voucher).

Nut waft?

There's a joke in there somewhere. Grin

GandTfortea · 03/03/2022 17:50

I have got a photo on my phone ,but I don’t know how to get it on here

OP posts:
TDCtomorrow · 03/03/2022 18:15

Press the paper clip then the plus sign if you're on the app

GandTfortea · 04/03/2022 04:55

If you type on line
Sainsburys recall vegan ready meal due to pork beef milk
The two ready meals with it in should come up one is the love your veg lentil ready meal lasagna and the other is a bolognaise lasagna where they used meat by mistake in the vegan lasagne .
.the pizza I bought also says it’s vegan ,then lists pork beef and milk in ingredients.
I’m on an I pad so no idea how to link a photo from my phone .
Mistakes do happen
So the purpose of this post was just to warn others to check it’s definitely vegan before eating
I don’t need to prove anything, and I’m not particularly bothered who believes me or who doesn’t

Lookingforphev · 04/03/2022 05:01

So the label on the front says vegan but the ingredients state it has pork, beef and milk in?

That's a labelling error, by the sounds of it. If I was vegan I wouldn't eat it, because you have no idea where the error occurred.

Also there's an icon with a paperclip. Press that and you can attach a photo

Lookingforphev · 04/03/2022 05:04

Also I googled what you suggested and that's from last year. That was because someone messed up hugely and used the wrong mix.

That's completely different to what you are describing. If they knew someone had done this again, they wouldn't slap a vegan label on the front and then the ingredients from the meat version on the back.

Suzi888 · 06/03/2022 10:08

Well I didn’t know they had vegan pizza so I’ll give it a try (after checking the label Grin)

Out of curiosity what do they taste like? I’ve got everything by nailed apart from cheese. Presumably the base is a bit different too ?
I like the cheese in the mccdonald’s mcplant burger (yes I know) but just getting started as a vegan and trying everything I can get my mitts on.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 06/03/2022 10:17

Off topic, but you have a Sainsburys which has a specific pizza counter where they make freshly made pizza? I am so jealous, my Sainsburys doesn't even have a deli counter anymore as it closed for covid and never reopened.
