Nervous to tell friends and family

I know I'm being ridiculous but I come from a very meat and two veg family. Friends are pretty much the same and up until a few months ago so was I. I don't think I know any vegetarians let alone vegans.

It started with me wanting to cut out dairy for Heath related reasons and I did this around three months ago. To keep me motivated I started doing some research and after some hard to watch documentaries my dh and I decided to make the switch and have been eating a plant based diet for two months now. I love it! I've lurked on here a few times to get some good meal ideas. The problem is I'm nervous to tell people. Did any of you feel this way or to I just have to get over myself?!
I think I'm more concerned about judgement relating to the kids. For now I've had them eating a plant based diet at home but outside of home with others I haven't restricted them yet.

I've done the same, I was vegetarian and last year decided to cut out dairy as it was giving me an upset stomach. I tend to say 'I'm cutting out daily at the moment as I find it upsets my stomach'. People seem fine with that, as soon as you say 'vegan' it sets people off! Grin

I agree with Violet. That's a good way of phrasing it.

Thanks both! I think that's a good solution. Vegetarian will raise some eyebrows but vegan will have their eyes rolling.

So....I'm a vegetarian who avoids dairy Wink

As the others have said, I wouldn’t announce it as such, just order whatever you order next time you’re eating out together and say the above if anyone asks.

Tbh you get quite a good vegan selection in a lot of places now, they might not even take that much notice Smile
