New vegan. Weight gain.

I've been vegan 3 months today after being vegetarian about 35 years.

I was doing low carb vegetarian.

I had a good grip on my eating as being low carb switched off my appetite and there were clear rules to follow, limited food choices and guilt free snacks I could eat. I lost a LOT of weight doing this and kept it off for the first time in my life.

Since becoming vegan I have put on about ten pounds. I feel a little lost. Part of it is that I can eat the carbs I wasn't allowed before and part is not having defined rules etc.

I would welcome any advice.

Swap the carbs for more plant based proteins like legumes. Ultimately you’ll have been taking in more calories than you are expending..

I don’t have any answers but I’m having the same problem. I used to eat tonnes of eggs which I found very filling and I guess I eat more calories with what I’m replacing them with.

This happened to me. I found focussing on eating more veg, tofu, lentils, chick peas and beans with fewer straight carbs helped. I was eating a lot of fake meat/dairy products and cutting down was a good change.

I think every new vegan does the same to some extent.
