Best alternative to butter

I don't really eat meat and now want to reduce dairy too. What's the healthiest alternative to butter? I switched from margarine to butter a few years ago because I started to worry marge was too processed with partially hydrogenated fats etc. What are the most commonly available brands that are best in this regard?

Lurking as DD is dairy free and she isn't keen on the Pure sunflower spread...

Naturli from sainsburys is meant to be the best.

I can’t find it so have vitalite, it has no hydrogenated fats.

TippetyTapWriter · 23/12/2018 23:00

Thanks I will have a look for both.

Vitalite.

PickAChew · 23/12/2018 23:11

Most spreads no longer have trans fats. They tend to be full of palm oil, instead.

BerylStreep · 23/12/2018 23:28

I suppose it depends on why you want to reduce butter.

Ghee is butter that has had all the milk solids removed, so is basically lacto free.

I also use coconut oil for cooking and adding to my coffee.

kikisparks · 24/12/2018 07:14

@BerylStreep this is the vegan section and ghee isn’t vegan.

kikisparks · 24/12/2018 07:14

@PickAChew naturli is free of palm oil and hydrogenated fat.

Hellywelly10 · 24/12/2018 07:29

Olive oil?

kikisparks · 24/12/2018 08:24

Coconut oil works pretty well on toast.

Belmo · 24/12/2018 08:41

I like flora dairy free best.

PoesyCherish · 24/12/2018 08:42

We have vitalite here and it's really good.

Naturli is amazing. Just leagues ahead. I go to a big Sainsbury's further away once a month and buy several packs. Keep meaning to write to my closer one.

The only problem is they keep it in the Free From chilled section, not the butter section, so you have to go looking for it.

Oh and you need to keep it in the fridge as it melts really easily. It spreads perfectly from the fridge.

I promise I have no connection to the company, it just really is that good.

TippetyTapWriter · 24/12/2018 09:32

Sainsbury's have naturli listed on their online shop so I'll add some to my next order. Thanks for the help.

ApricotExpat · 26/12/2018 16:59

Depends what you're using it for... avocado on toast I find better than any vegan butter!

JoroL · 27/12/2018 15:33
