Best butter alternative for toast

Hi, what's the nicest tasting dairy free alternative to butter? I've got some flora dairy free and it's not that nice. Have tried Pure in the past but can't remember what it tasted like. I normally use proper salted butter so am after something similar in taste if that's possible!

This is maybe a bit odd but I like coconut oil and salt. It doesn't exactly taste the same but it's spreadable in the same way and goes well with salt. I hate marge.

Waitrose do an avocado spread that doesn't make toast too soggy.

Tried other ones but they have a very oily mouthfeel to me.

Vitalite! Not vegan but cut down dairy where I can and find that I can’t even notice a difference between vitalite and our usual spread (bertolli/flora)

My best option to date is avocado oil spread. There was a Flora one with avocado and lime, which I can’t seem to find anywhere now, and M&S also do one (without lime).

I used to love salted butter - I now realise it’s the salt I’m missing, rather than the butter, so adding seasoning is probably the way to go!

I find vitalite very mouth cloggy and has high water content which makes toast soggy. It's ok on sandwiches though

So as you can see it's very much personal taste and trial and error op

well to me, I think for toast, you need a high fat content, and most margerines/spreads are full of water

Probably not what you are after, but my favourite thing on toast at the moment is mashed avocado seasoned with lemon juice, salt and pepper. It’s really nice.

I've gone for peanut butter and raspberry jam.

Have tried lots and the Pure sunflower spread is the best I’ve found so far. Is quite satisfying and has no weird aftertaste like some of them. You can cook with it too.

All hydrogenated fat imitation butters are vile. Better to go for something that is being itself, not pretending to be something else.

Various different kinds of nut butters (not just peanut - almond, cashew etc). Houmous on toast is great for breakfast (but don't try putting jam or marmalade on top).

Our local deli does a delicious coconut, cashew and carob spread.

In savoury sandwiches which are destined to have other fillings added, a bit of mashed avocado will moisten the slices of bread perfectly.

Pure.or just avocado on toast!

You say that, but DO try putting a bit of mango chutney on top of hummous. It's incredible

I get Tomor spread from my local Sainsburys. It's marketed as kosher so is in the "world food" section rather than with the usual spreads. It's the only spread I eat on toast without anything else, it's really nice and buttery tasting.

Tahini can be nice

My DD is dairy free we get pure / flora dairy free
