Vegan and health issues

Hello, I've had Ibs for a number of years now and it's only getting worse which is currently being investigated. I've been looking into which diet would be best for my stomach and a lot of research I've looked at seems to mention vegan as being one of the best. Does anyone have any experiences of symptoms of ibs getting better when adopting a vegan diet? Thank you Smile

With IBS, aren't you meant to try and work out which foods work for you personally? I.e. more of less fibre or less gluten etc it can be compatible with either a vegan or non-vegan diet but I can't see that going vegan would make all the difference.

I think if you go gluten, sugar free you will find your IBS will really improve. Also get a really good probioctic ie 14 strains 50 billion. This will also help because you need to heal your gut and probiotics really help with this. You can also get probioctics from kefer. There are others but can't remember them. Google natural probioctics. Hope this helps. Oh forgot to mention, if you cook potatoes and let them cool, then either eat them cold from the fridge or reheat them, this is an excellent pre- bioctic all this will increase the good bacteria in your gut. A bonus may be, you will also loose weight if you need to.

Thank you for your replies, I have tried the elimination but still am unable to pin point what causes the pain as it varies considerably, I had a colonoscopy on Monday which was to look if there were any other causes as to what might be causing the pain.

I'm willing to give anything a go after a particularly horrendous attack this evening so will try it for a few weeks and if it suits me then win win!

Sorry to hijack, can anyone recommend a good probiotic? Ideally available on amazon? It's all quite confusing x

I have used naturwise 30 strains 30 billion cpu from amazon and found it quite good. You can get it on amazon. Sometimes you have to experiment to get the one that suits you. Read the buyer reviews you may find one that suits your condition from others. Just make sure its gluten free.

Going vegan hasn't affected my IBS at all. Dairy free (before that) made a huge difference though, and gluten is definitely a huge trigger for me.

I've found that eating fruit on an empty stomach works very well for stomach problems. (not straight after meals) Which isn't related to veganism really. And try not to combine protein and carbs at the same meal. Until your IBS has cleared up.

Also if you know your blood type check out the Blood Type Diet which is a personal health help!

Going vegan seems to have 'cured' my IBS (haven't had any symptoms since) but it could just be coincidence. If you think you can do it it's worth a try, if it makes you feel better it's worth it :)
